TEXAS STATE HANDGUN LICENSING INFORMATION

TEXAS LICENSE TO CARRY CLASS

The Texas Department of Public Safety mandates the classroom portion for a first time License To Carry concealed or open class to be a minimum of 4 - 6 hours.  We cover every part of the state mandated curriculum including:

Use of Force Laws Rules and

      Restrictions: Concealed & Open Carry

      Non-Violent Dispute Resolution

Safe Storage & Handling of  Handgun

      Range Safety & DPS Qualification

Please use the helpful links below to prepare for your first time class.

People often ask  us if they should study before attending their LTC class.  There will be a test at the end of the day!  The honest answer is: our curriculum and the materials that we provide as part of your class are designed to thoroughly equip you with the knowledge you need in order to pass the written test.

Your pre-class time is better utilized at the range working on your weapons handling safety and accuracy skills along with getting your State paperwork & prints completed!  At the successful completion of your class we will present you with your State certification papers AKA LTC-100.  If you take care of your State admin duties prior to class, all that's left for you to do is submit your paperwork!

The most important thing that is NOT included in the State LTC class is handgun Concealment & Open Carry deployment.  Once your license comes back to you, we highly recommend our Intermediate Handgun class. This class is critical for anyone who wants to carry their handgun.  Even if you just intend to keep your handgun in your vehicle!  Click on Handgun Courses for further info.

YOU MUST HAVE A LICENSE TO CARRY AS A MINIMUM REQUIREMENT TO TRAINING BEYOND A BASIC CLASS!  WE ONLY TRAIN THE GOOD GUYS!

RENEWAL INFORMATION:

For those of you who already have a Concealed Have a CHL or License To Carry, you are NO longer required to attend a renewal class. You are also certified for Open Carry.

If your CHL/LTC is expired or about to, your renewal process is done completely on line at the Texas Department of Public Safety's LTC website below. Just go to the DPS' LTC page and you can conduct your whole renewal process online.

 http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/txdps/chl/common/jsp/welcome.jsp

The most critical skill NOT taught in the State LTC class is handgun Open Carry & concealment along with how to deploy your weapon. If your LTC/CHL is valid, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER TAKING THE MAWs' INTERMEDIATE HANDGUN CLASS!

There will be NO classroom time!  We teach you how to select your personal defense handgun, holster, ammo & ammo carriers before you attend.  This is  a shooting class!

On class day, we teach you how deploy your  your concealed or open carry handgun without hurting yourself or another innocent such as a family member!  At the end of your Intermediate Handgun class you will be able to safely deploy your concealed handgun to hit a bad guy sized target at  reasonable distances in order to defend yourself or your loved ones!  If you do not posses the Intermediate Handgun skills taught in this class, you are more of a problem than a solution to a critical incident!  Without this class, your civil liability is tremendous!!!

If your license has lapsed, renew it! If you have been expired too long to renew, read the info to the right and use the links below to obtain a valid CHL.  Once your license comes back to you, we highly recommend our Intermediate Handgun class. This class is critical for anyone who wants to carry their handgun.  Even if you just intend to keep it in your vehicle!

If you have successfully passed our Intermediate Handgun class or it's equivalent, we offer the Tactical Handgun class which is a prerequisite to our Advanced Handgun class.

For more information, please click on Handgun, Rifle or Shotgun Courses.  Remember, except for very basic Safe Handling and Shooting classes, you must have a valid CHL/LTC, Active LE or Military ID credentials to receive Intermediate, Tactical or Advanced training from Maneuvers And Weapons LLC!

WE ONLY TRAIN THE GOOD GUYS!

CERTIFICATION & STATE LICENSE FEES:

We can't license you and the State will not certify you!  This means that there are two separate fees associated with obtaining a Texas License To Carry: The DPS mandated classroom & range certification fee and the 4 year Texas State license fee.

CLASSROOM & RANGE CERTIFICATION (our part):

Everyone is different.  That's why we do not offer a "General Public, Fit-all" class. Pricing will vary on your needs. Certification includes; Classroom and range training & qualification.  We will also furnish you with a LTC manual which is yours to keep.  Smaller classes are safer classes! We will only train and certify up to 4 students in the Texas LTC Class at a time. We also offer custom classes that include the mandated LTC material.  You can find cheaper but you will not find safer or better!

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY LICENSE FEE:

Prior to attending your LTC class, go online and complete your State of Texas CHL application at:    http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/txdps/chl/common/jsp/welcome.jsp   This is where you find out if you are eligible for a Texas License To Carry.  There is a list of questions that you have to answer regarding your past & present where you must put your initials next to each item.  If even one is not something you can answer in the affirmative, you are NOT eligible for a LTC at this time!   They deal with criminal history, spousal restraining orders, DWI's,  child support nonpayment & even Student Loan non payments.  There are NO REFUNDS once you have taken the class & paid the DPS!!!  It is worth the 10 minutes it will take you online with a DPS to complete your State paperwork & read those questions!

Be sure to print out the required paperwork before ending your online session and keep and keep up with it!  Especially the bar code page!!!  The state fee required to register for a new 4-year license is $40.00. Complete the info on the DPS-LTC website and then print out the documentation to bring to your class.

Before you close your session with the LTC Unit, you can book your required digital fingerprint appointment.  Otherwise you will have to wait 24 hours before you can schedule as described below!

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU TAKE TIME TO COMPLETE YOUR ONLINE LTC PAPERWORK PRIOR TO YOUR CLASS!  IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES! Once you have successfully completed your certification class, you will forward all the paperwork to DPS to finalize the licensing process.  We will devote class time to making sure your DPS paperwork is organized correctly to insure your success.  If you haven't completed your online LTC paperwork, we will not be able to assist you in this area.
